Moving Your Personal Brand Forward in 2021

Updating Your Personal Brand for 2021

We all know 2020 has not been the most stellar year. Likely voted the worst by most. Am I right?! But with the not great stuff, there was some good that came of it all.

If anything, this past year has taught us all to slow down. We have had more time to sit and think and take note of where we’re at in life, what we’re doing and how we prioritize things. Through all of this, I believe we’ve found new values that have become more important for us to share.

As a result of so much change, our business at the beginning of 2020 likely looks a lot different than it does now. And for many of us, it continues to adapt as we move towards the future. Keeping our personal brand in line with all of the changes is something all business owners need to consider.

With the year quickly coming to an end, now is the perfect time to think about what your business looks like now and how you want it to be in the future. Here are some personal brand refresh tips to think about as you look to 2021 and beyond.

Assess Your Current Brand

Living through a Global Pandemic unexpectedly certainly has forced change, and a lot of it. Not only how we live but how we work too. Many of our businesses have been forced to pivot (we all know how much I love that word and I know I’m not alone!), and that comes with much change. We need to take some time and focus on our business, think about those changes and make sure things are in line as we move into the new year.

What does your brand look like? Is your website matching your needs? The needs of your clients? Do your values match your marketing? Where and how do you need to make some changes to reflect what has happened in 2020? And where are you going in 2021?

Goals

Take some time to think about your goals for your business. They might be very different from this time last year. What will your business look like a year from now? 5 years from now? Who are your loyal customers? What does your brand look like? What’s the feel of it? Create some short term and long term goals.

Your Brand Story for 2021

Think about your brand story a year ago and how it’s changed. Reflect and brainstorm where you’ve been, where you are and where you want to go. Who are you and what do you offer? What makes you unique? Who are your clients and how do you want them to feel? Are your current values reflected? The more specific you can be, the better.

Update Your Visuals

Now that you’ve rewritten your story, it’s time to implement it. Do your marketing elements match your story? Do you need a new logo, website or design colours? What should your brand look like in 2021?

You’re likely going to need new images to tell your story. Think about your website, social media and any other marketing materials. In all cases, the images needed should focus on you. You are the centre of your brand, which I know may make you feel uncomfortable, but that is where I come in to help you through this process.

In planning for your photo shoot, think about what makes you unique, your skills and interests. Plan for a personal brand photoshoot not only in your workspace but also in your home &/or play place. Your clients want to get to know you and showing who you are and what you’re all about is really key. Have a peek at my Instagram page to get some ideas to inspire you.
