Because the
ordinary is
always there
I’m your host
the Deets
Have you ever experienced that moment when you’re moving fast but something stops you in your tracks. Not a big over the top moment. Just a crack in the ordinary that lets the light through.
Noticing the Ordinary is a podcast about those kinda moments.
I’m Michele, a photographer who has spent most of my life noticing what often gets missed. No word of a lie, people are always saying to me: “I never even noticed that before!” and “you truly have a gift for seeing people.” I never really thought of anything I do as a gift, but more so an insatiable curiosity.
Now I’m sharing my love for noticing all the things. You can expect solo musings and honest conversations with rad humans about the extraordinary hiding inside everyday life.
I am an autistic + ADHD Brasilian / Canadian Gen X’er living with Multiple Sclerosis who is raising (and unschooling!) a child with high support needs. Sometimes I repeat myself, I mix up dates and I tend to cuss. My heart is big, my values are strong, and I have opinions I am not afraid to share.
Thanks for being here.

We all know that moment when we’re moving fast but something stops us in our tracks.
Not a big moment. Just a crack in the ordinary that lets the light through.
The aim of this podcast is to remind you of the ordinary. You know, the mundane, everyday stuff, that we so often miss. The stuff that has the potential to fill us with wonderment if we stop long enough to notice.
Hosted by award-winning Vancouver photographer Michele Mateus, this podcast features solo musings and honest conversations with rad humans about the curiosity, connection, and creativity that keep us going.
You’ll laugh, you’ll go deep, and you’ll walk away with a few more glimmers than you started with.
Because the ordinary is always there.

The Quiet Power of Validation
Ever had someone say the exact right thing at the exact right moment whichย caught you off guard because it really mattered? That's this week's crack in the ordinary.
This episode is for you if…
- you've ever needed to hear ”that makes sense” more than you needed advice
- you're working on getting out of your head and into your body
- you want simple ways to make someone's day without it costing a thing
- you're curious how presence shows up in creative work
I'm reflecting on why validation feels so grounding, whether it's celebrating something good or acknowledging something hard, and how a small moment of being truly seen can fill you with wonder you didn't expect.
In this episode, we talk about:
- Why validation feels so powerful, even when we don't want to admit we need it
- How presence and intention show up in creative work
- Getting out of your head and into your body
- Small, everyday ways to practice validation โ for others and for yourself
- Why ”holding space” matters more than we think
Validation doesn't have to be complicated. Sometimes it's just noticing, and saying so.
Take a listen and let's get noticing together
