WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO CELEBRATE BEING FAB OVER 40?
Women in the media continually portray women past 40 as not youthful, fun and "Past their prime". Turning 50 this year felt more so. They call it the "invisible age". I wanted to smash that stereotype!
WHAT DID YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE?
The whole experience of being pampered with hair and makeup, the rocking tunes and the best part was her clothing rack of fun things to wear even though I had brought my own stuff. As a Mom, I always take pictures and never in them. I wanted to capture the significant milestone of being half a century wise!
HOW HAS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR BODY CHANGED
I have learned to appreciate now what my body has done having four children. I suffered terribly from an eating disorder for over 25yrs that nearly destroyed my life. It occupied my thoughts obsessively. I am so grateful to be free of that obsession. There are some days I still struggle to love my body. But more and more I accept it and have even come to love it.
WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED TO APPRECIATE MORE AS YOU
I look back now and wish I appreciated my appearance. I wish I had the confidence then that I do now. To not care how I looked compared to magazines and nowadays good filters. I have learned to appreciate my uniqueness.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU LIKE TO OFFER OTHER WOMEN?
You are only given one life and one body. Learn to appreciate it and celebrate it. Comparison is the thief of joy!
