Today is the International Day for the Elimination Today is the International Day for the Elimination for Violence against Women. The theme this year is #noexcuse *sigh* I’m part of the stat of 1:3 women who have been subjected to physical and/or seggsual violence at the hands of a man. AND this number is x3 higher for Indigenous women. And that’s *reported* numbers and as someone who never reported anything I know in my heart that sadly this number is most likely even higher 😭 For many of us, myself included, these experiences are not one offs, and the damage done is something that we live with as fear and trauma (that often manifests into dis-ease) in our bodies for our entire lives. Gender based violence can manifest in so many awful ways and I don’t even have the strength today to spell out how, but really the problem isn’t how it manifests, but that still happens. I’m also so tired of the onus being on women, we are expected to: - Buy the pepper spray - Take the self defence class - Don’t walk alone - Constantly be on watch - Not dress a a certain way - Not take up too much space And on and on and on 🤬 It’s freaking exhausting and it’s sadly getting worse, especially when world leaders can take office who are raging aholes with records that are worthy of a lifetime in prision, what the heck message does that send to women, girls and, non-binary and gender diverse folks?! 🤬 What can we do aside from filling with fear and despair? 💫 Believe women when they share their stories 💫 Stop making excuses for men - just stop! As a mother to a boy you sure as hell have my word that I will not protect his sorry ass if he harms a woman (or quite frankly another human) though I truly hope I’m raising him to know never not to 💫 Push your government to fund proper aftercare for folks who experience gender based violence and this after care MUST include culture safety and decolonized Indigenous led solutions and services I have so much more I want to say but I’ll finish with this: 🫶 to all those that have experienced gender based violence I believe you, I stand with you, I send so much love out to you ♥️ Photo by @winner.brave #Noexcuse #genderbasedviolence #endviolenceagainstwomen

Posing is one thing, but being in connection with yourself, and then flowing to the beat of your own vibe, that’s where the magic happens 💫 Let’s be honest, photography is performative - like you are literally performing in front of a camera, but it doesn’t have to be contrived 💋 As an Art Director it’s my goal to also connect with you, to meet you where you’re at and to hold space for you to feel free to be whoever you want to be without shame or judgement.
