ARTIST BIO

Mateus is an international award winning portrait photographer who is dedicated to building confidence in anyone that self identifies as a woman through the art of photography. She is known for going beyond taking a photo, holding space for women to truly embody who they are without judgment.

“My work isn’t just about creating beautiful portraits, it’s about personal transformation. It’s about showing up for yourself, owning yourself and empowering yourself. It’s my goal that women will have an experience that will transcend being awkward in front of a camera, and allow them to truly connect with who they are.

I dream of women feeling proud to hang a portrait of themselves in their home, literally taking up space and making a statement that they are beautiful, strong and deserve to be seen. To me, this is a radical expression of self love. Many of my clients share that they have experienced some sort of trauma, I would think that most women have – I know I have my share of big and small T’s in my past. These trauma’s along with the endless societal judgements placed upon women often keep us down, not living to our fullest potential.

Many of the women I have photographed come to me as they are on their personal healing journey. The photos I create with them are part of that healing, and a celebration of all they have lived through.

My Fabulous Beyond 40 Exhibition explores women over the age of 40 and their connection to their bodies and wanting to live in their power, breaking free of social constraints, and standing together to smash beauty standards around women as we age.”
