Embracing Alopecia with a Photoshoot
Embracing Alopecia with a photoshoot
Meet the incredible Ms.M! This gorgeous human has a condition called alopecia where her immune system attacks her hair follicles and as a result she is bald. Don’t feel bad for her though. She is proud of her beautiful bald black head and is even more proud to show off her overall beauty!
Together we co-created these amazing images with a Mateus Studios Portrait Experience, with the intention being about embracing alopecia being part of her, but not solely defining her. Ms.M opted to wear a variety of outfits that I think were just perfect to capture her vivaciousness, her sparkle, her sensuality and her fierceness!
Michel brought wigs along with her, as someone who loved wearing wigs before she thought, why not bring them… but then something special happened… she was like ummm “screw those I am going to full embrace my beautiful, Black, bald head!” and that she did!
It always warms my heart so much when I see people standing into who they are NOW, taking that step, which is NOT easy to do with all the pressures put on us by society to full fill the capitalist agenda.
Not only did Michel rock her shoot proudly as a Black woman living with Alopecia BUT ALSO one of the images one a prestigious Portrait Masters award, and placed me in the top 20 Photographers in 2022 with the Portrait Masters, and this truly couldn’t have happened without the energy we both brough to this photoshoot.
You can see some of the photos here: The 2022 Portrait Masters Image Awards!
Ms.M is definitely fab and fierce and I hope you love her photos as much as I do! Enjoy!
